Proud to be a Traveller

The library service in Lancaster, particularly Heysham Library, has carried out lots of positive work with the Traveller community...

Working closely with Eileen Mullervey from Traveller Attainment, the 'Proud to be a Traveller' project has recently been completed to encourage young travellers to stay in education - there are now more travellers in education, than not, in Lancaster.  From this, a 10 week course is now operating with traveller girls to help improve literacy and numeracy.  1-2-1 courses are also being delivered for 'Catch up Literacy'.

The project has allowed young travellers to share their stories and experiences of their lives as a traveller, sharing information about their families, culture and tradition, and their hopes and dreams.  The attached document shares some of this information, along with the link below which shows a short film, featuring the young travellers as they share their experiences.
