FLOW - Family Learning Opportunities and Wellbeing

FLOW worked with children's centres to support parents and carers of children so that they could play an active role in promoting early learning and development.

The FLOW team visited families in their homes and developed bespoke packages of care and support. The focus of this work was to build the skills and confidence of the parents and carers in providing stimulation for their children to help them learn and develop.

78% of families accessing support through FLOW reported increased confidence in their parenting skills and 77% felt they had a better relationship with their children. Many children (43%) have also been identified as having additional needs and are now receiving specialist support earlier than they would have previously.

"I knew the basics of looking after my child - keeping him warm, safe and fed but I did not realise I had to educate him or play with him. He has always had toys, but I presumed nursery and school were for education, I now know more about early learning and ensure I now play with my children at least once a day, I already can see a difference."
