Young Carers Awareness Day 2017

This national day recognises children and young people under 18 years old who provide care and support to someone in their family who is ill, has a disability or misuses substances.

Based on census figures we estimate we have around 4,000 children and young people who are providing care in Lancashire but the true number is likely to be far higher. Young carers often take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult. The tasks undertaken can vary according to the nature of the illness or disability, the level and frequency of need for care and the structure of the family as a whole.

  • take 5 minutes to watch the awareness raising film made by young carers in Lancashire ) and share/ discuss with your colleagues and teams.
  • make pledges to young carers which will collectively evidence how we are all working together to identify and support this vulnerable group.

Please visit Lancashire Young Carers Service for more information about the services available to support young carers.
